From this £63.75 paid £10.63 was taken as VAT and £27.18 was taken as fuel duty so 59% of the money I spent this morning went to the government.

Diesel and my first payment of fuel duty
So today I had to fill up my Car, I had to put in 47 Litres of Diesel (Well 46.91 to be exact) at a price of £1.359 per litre.
From this £63.75 paid £10.63 was taken as VAT and £27.18 was taken as fuel duty so 59% of the money I spent this morning went to the government.
So at the moment (Day 3 of 2014) my tax liability is as follows.
